Retrocognition

The word ‘retrocognition’ is formed of two Latin words, retro and cognition. While ‘retro’ means backward, in the past or behind, ‘cognition’ means knowing. The term was coined by Frederic Myers.

Most psychics possess the paranormal power of retrocognition and use it to elicit the knowledge of the past events. In normal circumstances, this knowledge cannot be acquired through the conventional wisdom or by using the five physical senses.
Retrocognition is akin to clairaudience, clairsentience, telepathy, sixth sense, intuition and so on. It is opposite of pre-recognition, which means knowing the future before hand.

Most of us have a feeling of déjà vu, which is perhaps a retrocognition at lower level. In practical areas, the psychics use their ability of retrocognition to reconstruct the scenes of crime where the culprits manage to erase all the signs of their crime.  Such people give tough time to the investigative agencies; hence they rope in the psychics to seek their help.
